In a population of 69.4 million (of whom more than 10 million live in the sprawling capital Kinshasa), the huge majority (84.7%) are under 15 years old. While a very few are extremely wealthy, the huge majority live in poverty: 72.5% in multi-dimensional poverty, while 87.7% earn less than $1.25/ day.
